THANK YOU – no… thank you :-)

Thank You Award

Thank You Award

Premio Primavera blog award

I love this award because it really stands for how I like to participate in the blogging world. I love to comment on people’s blogs – and I also like to respond to people’s comments on mine. I think of it as positive blog graffiti – kinda of a ‘Lizzy woz ere’

Yes that might seem over the top but I think if I don’t why not just have a website and post my creations there? I blog not just to chronicle my creations but to also fill my world with sewing chatter – which would be sadly lacking if not for my blog and twitter feed (oh how I love twitter, I know it can have a reputation but if you follow nice people, it’s a nice place to be). I can tell how many hits I get on my blog but it’s the feedback, hints and encouragement that really makes me smile.

The Premio Primavera blog award is a Thank You for giving support and encouragement through comments. This award you pass onto the last nine commenters on your blog, they then pass it on and so on – it’s a major rolling thank you festival! What a nice idea!

Clearly I comment alot as I was nominated for this award in the last week by The Crazy Gypsy Chronicles (a quick swim across the ditch in NZ) and also Zo So (a hop skip and a jump down in lovely Melbourne) – and then the amazing Goodbye Valentino!

So (drumroll please) the award goes to…

  1. Sew Exhausted: Sewing, Quilting, Crafting, oh my!
  2. Gardeningnivana: Lovely gardening blog
  3. Gingermakes: Impossible not to love this gal. She’s adorable. Check out her Banksia top!
  4. Liza Jane Sews: Beautiful clothes, great eye for colour and design.
  5. Twisted Yarns: Sews and knits!
  6. Ozzy Blackbeard: she knits, sews and crochets!!
  7. Boomdeeadda: who nominated me for the Lovely Blogger Award x 🙂
  8. Did You Make That: who inspired me to make those crazy aprons – the nutty photoshoot was all my husband’s idea (yes, he’s lovely)
  9. finally Annabelvita – a new visitor to my blog – courtesy of the Apronalong!

Goodbye Valentino should also be Number 8 on this list but I figured being one of the award nominators means I should play hopscotch and pass it along further in the blog world – otherwise Goodbye Valentino will be doing Thank You posts every second day as she is a very active stitcher, blogger and commenter! Love your work Sarah!

And while I am on a THANK YOU roll….

One of my all-time favourite blogger the gorgeous and tremendously funny Anne from Pretty grievances. I adore Anne’s blog, she always makes me laugh. I sent her some very garish german hound fabrics, she sent me the amazing Twinkle Sews book and some fabric and some buttons. I adore everything in this package and I think the Twinkle Sews patterns will be making plenty of appearances on this blog. Thank you Anne…

Twinkle Sews, some fabric and buttons!

Thank you The Perfect Nose. I was super lucky to win her September giveaway. It’s a magazine. I love stacks of the patterns and I think I might try a top for my girls first – with some of the Metallicus fabric I scored at The Fabric Store on the weekend – for just $4 a metre (so I purchased 4 metres of course!). It’s surprisingly hard to find cool patterns for the tween end of the sewing market but I think there are a couple in there that will tick the box!

Thank you to Maria Denmark who has asked me to pattern test her new trouser patterns – I can’t tell you any more but watch this space.

PS: Megan Nielsen is having an amazing first birthday giveaway!! Don’t miss it!

  1. Congratulations on your lovely (and well deserved) awards and gifts. I agree about the community that blogging encourages. It’s a wonderful place to be and the support and encouragement it engenders is no small thing.

  2. Fabulous! I really should comment more than I do 😦 I struggle like heck on anything that isn’t wordpress with my iPad! Musn’t be a naughty blogger and blame my tools though! There are some great blogs I hadn’t come across before though so I’ll be off exploring later…
And I agree, twitter space with sewing friends is a great place to be!

    • Thanks Becky! That’s so true, I found blogs so inspiring when I started sewing again, it’s a lovely niche to be in 🙂 and there are soooo many great (and kind and generous) bloggers out there!

  3. We are just entering the world of blogging after a pathetic start a few years back… and an award already! So thrilled! Thanks Lizzy! I am discovering so many fabulous blogs to read and fellow sewers to “ooh and ahh” with… I hope I have time left to create beautiful things! 😉

  4. hahaha you’re welcome, can’t wait to see all you cool things you make. Your fabric choices are always unexpectedly suitable- also any chance of a review of the Twinkle Sews book with your choices?

    • LOL I love that comment ‘unexpectedly suitable’ I’m taking that as a compliment! Absolutely I’ll review it, I think I need to make at least one project to review the book as its a little different with its measurements & terminology – I’ve got some fabric for my first attempt… watch this space

  5. Congratulations Lizzy, I can tell you that comments make it all worth while for sure. I just love visiting Sew Busy Lizzy. Thanks for thinking of me. I really appreciate your message and I’ll link it back to you on my nominations page 🙂

  6. I am extremely interested to read that you can buy Metalicus fabric. I have been on a quest to find this for years and have resorted to refashioning old Metalicus things (not the cheapest way to do it!). I hopped straight on to the Fabric Store website after reading this post but I can’t find anything that seems to be Metalicus fabric on there. Do you happen to remember what it’s called and maybe what colours are available. I am in Perth, but they do say they will post fabric so I’m trying not to get too excited! Thank you so much and congratulations on the award 🙂

    • I would call or email the store direct. They don’t really have an online shop but their service is excellent and I’m sure they will be able to send you samples. They offered that service to me as I live four hours drive away. most of their summer stretch is on sale until Monday 11 Nov. I did spot some black Metallicus stretch, it was on sale in the Surrey Hills store for $8. My coral fabric was in a bargain bin. They carry all sorts of designer fabrics, Lisa Ho, Marc Jacpbs and more.

  7. congrats on the awards and the gifts! 😀 you really deserve it! I see you pop up everywhere in the blogosphere and you just spread a lovely and supportive vibe! 😀 it is nice how the internet and a hobby can create such a nice supportive community and to me you are at the center of it all being there for people! 🙂 so all well deserved and awesome! 😀 😀 😀

    • Considering you are my sewing blogging ‘superhero’ that really makes my day.
I was so sad for you to read the nasty comments on your blog. Some people have no perspective to see how hurtful words can be. It was so unnecessary, spiteful and uncalled for.
As my mum would say – ‘you know you are better than that, rise above it and don’t sink to their level.’
      Handmade by Carolyn rocks!

  8. No, thank you, Sweet Lizzy. For taking the time to test and make up a pattern with almost none (and wrong) instructions! And for always taking the time to chat on Twitter (my no 1 procrastinator!)

    • Thanks Maria, I’m going to put the zip in today. Fingers crossed but I’m feeling confident, that Threads tutorial looks great!
I love Twitter, yes it’s great for wasting time but its such a nice way to connect with people.

  9. Lizzy, I am so sorry you are having a tough time; with family unwell. (virtual hug)
And I can hardly imagine you will ever attract criticism for being a ray of sunshine; that is something I love about your blog and you! but it is a fact that there are naturally negative and melancholy people, and I have definitely been “put in my place” tonnes!
I’m sure that your cheerful blog will always be a happy place for people to visit 🙂

  10. I am such a dork sometimes! I meant to congratulate you to those very well deserved awards, and also thank you for nominating me for ages!!
I hope your life has settled a bit (mine hasn’t, lol), and you’re such a trooper! Virtual hug, and thanks , and all the best!

  11. Thank you very much, lady! I’m such a huge fan of your blog and I can’t help but comment on everything (when I have internetz, that is!)! You will look cute as can be in the Twinkle patterns!!
