This is what is on my ironing board tonight, Sewaholic Cambie, view B.
After the grunge fest that was Colette Purple Haze’l, this is rather like eating icecream on a warm sunny afternoon. Yummy, delightful and old-fashioned fun.
I bought this rose fabric at Easter simply because it made me feel happy. Which is a perfectly sensible reason to buy fabric don’t you think?
I pictured it as a full-skirted summer dress. And then Cambie came along! Kismet!
I’m up to putting in the zipper, attaching the lining, finishing the straps, hemming… quite a bit really!
I’m really enjoying making this dress and hope the joy continues tomorrow. I have a plan for View A as well.
However I shall NOT wear my black cargo pants while sewing with white thread again (although my mum always told me if you were dirty it must mean you had been having fun).

What kind of fabric is that? It’s going to look lovely! Did you do the sweetheart neck or straight?
It’s just a poplin from Spotlight, it’s lovely and smooth. I’ve lined it with cheesecloth of all things! However it feels lovely on and gives the skirt some real ‘oomph’.
Nice! Did you see spotlight have a 25% off voucher at the moment if you’re friends on facebook? I’m planning on getting thread but may end up with some of the lisette cotton lawn range for a cambie – or the colette patterns crepe.
I saw someone today with one of those and was wondering where she got it. Doh! There is a gorgeous Lisette small blue & white floral I’m dying to get but $14.99 a meter is off putting!
When I was at Spotlight I picked up a lovely soft blue floral/holey fabric marked down to $6 and then half price today $3. Perfect for Cambie because of the lining!so I bought the rest of the bolt, 4m instead of the 2m I needed… oops.
Hi there, thanks for the comment on my blog, yes I just cut the bodice front straight across on the Cambie dress, eliminating the dip in the center. Love your Hazel dress – great use of stripes.
Hi Beth, thanks, I’ve just laid out the pieces for View A and can’t wait to start. Finished View B yesterday. First time ive sewn with Sewaholic, I’m so impressed with her sizing and proportions – its like she snuck in one night and measured me.
Thanks for the compliment about Hazel, I love to take advantage of design lines and play with fabric pattern placement – probably a hangover from my patchwork days.
I have bought fabric for many more foolish reasons! It made me giggle, it made me think of Mrs slaghoople, it looked like a Muppet from a distance…..I could go on! Love the floral!
I love the fact that sewing provides an avenue to sew lovely clothes out of completely ridiculous fabrics, the world needs more joy and silliness I say. In fact I think we should launch a movement to deck out our world leaders in more appropriate work wear, they might make better choices in muppet wear!
I’m lovin this whole Muppet Wear tangent, and I couldn’t agree with you more. The world needs silliness. That’s probably my number one favorite thing about sewing, finding whimsical fabrics and just running with it. Can’t wait to see your final Cambie product.

I adore this fabric, it feels delightful and suits the Cambie pattern so well. I was a complete tomboy growing up, rarely seen out of denim – sewing is definitely revealing my ‘girly’ side. I’m delighting in ‘froth & bubble’ at the moment.
Hi! I first saw this pattern on your blog and I went over to Sewaholic and bought it a couple months ago. I just finally started cutting out the material for it yesterday! I thought you might be able to help me out since you loved making this. I have a 44″ wide fabric. For that, pieces 3 & 8 are laid out with the grain line perpendicular to the fold, so do I refold my material or do the grainlines on the pattern pieces NOT follow the grain?
Or what did you do when you cut it out?

Ha! Sorry about that, I forgot that you did this a while back, silly me!
3 is the sleeve and 8 is the skirt back. I don’t remember what I did with the piece 3 when I made my mock; I think I just followed the grainline on the pattern piece…
I would follow the grainline on the pattern piece for the sleeve. The grain on the skirt being crosswise or lengthwise doesn’t matter so much as it is gathered (unless you have a directional print of course) and doesn’t need the give to go over hips or anything.

I figured it out… I was looking at the instructions wrong…that’s what happens when I try doing things on a Friday night after a long week at work! 🙂
