Top 5 of 2013
I had five things written down. All very sensible & fluent. However this morning I read this post by Rochelle of Lucky Lucille.
It got me thinking.
Of all my reflections about life, sewing, blogging I simply have this to share…
Don’t undervalue what you are.

Celebrate who you are. The hits & misses, positives & negatives… we need both to find balance. Maybe it’s not that someone is better or worse… it’s simply that they are different.

absolutely! I’m not overly fussed by my “misses”, I think we need to admit them in order to move on & do “better”. That doesn’t mean the misses are rubbish, or that we are , but that we can all learn & change. I know that next year I need to slow down & make more time for slower, more intricate projects after this year’s whirlwind! I love what you do!

Lovely sentiment and one I’m sure many can relate to. I’m still curious about the best things you learnt this year during sewing. To me the reflections section is about new skills, techniques, and enlightening discoveries (as well as allowing comment on personal performance). I’d love to learn from what you’ve picked up along the way.
I guess I feel I write a lot of those things into my regular posts… and I’ve been flat on my back with acute neck/shoulder pain so my writing ability is limited to my stamina of one finger & an iPhone screen 😦

I love this! Thanks for the reminder–it applies to life in general, and I tend to forget during the times I need to remember it the most.
Very well said. It’s good to share successes and failures with others – but everyone is different and it’s wrong to compare yourself against another. I hope you have a wonderful 2014, my love. You deserve it xxx

I’m in mad agreement. Also, I hope you’re soon back to full functioning and that the pain vanishes with the old year.
While I’m happy enough to reflect on what I’ve done – or, in my case, not done! – I’ve learnt that life often gets in the way of plans and if you can’t roll a little with its punches, you certainly don’t come out the other side very well. Additionally, if I were to critique my own output at all stringently, I’d be very hard pressed to do so because most of what I knitted in 2013 was given away, as was most of the small amount of sewing I managed. I tell myself I’ll do better this year and perhaps I will. But in the way that life threw some unexpected curve balls in our family’s path last year, I’ve no doubt at all that there’ll be more this year. And this year has enough anticipated bumps in it already!
From where I sit halfway across the country from you, your output and your blogging about them have been a source of inspiration – always so professional looking, always beautifully constructed – and I hope you’ll continue to share your magic with us through 2014. Cheers.
‘Simply that they are different’. Your words couldn’t be better timed. I’ve been struggling for a very long time with a family member’s differences which affect our every day life. Someone recently said to me ” just different, not less”, small statements can be immensely helpful. Hopefully I can regain my sewing mojo this year, but meanwhile I absolutely love to read your blog and live vicariously through your experiences, you are what my Mum would have called a ‘pocket rocket’.
